Weight and fitness are concerns for many people. About 45 million Americans go on a diet ever year, and the number of obese people is rising around the world. At the same time, some people suffer from eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder. It's clear that many people have health issues related to diet. Whether they eat too much or too little, eat the wrong things, or don't get enough activity to use the calories they consume, teens face many of these issues every day. Fad diets can be dangerous. Food choices can be limited. And body dysmorphic disorder can distort one's perception of their weight, leading people at healthy weights to "see" themselves as fat. Understanding these disorders and how to maintain a healthy diet is the first step to improving our relationship with eating.
