Though theworld was used to having an annual flu season by 1918, something was different about the virus that year. It would kill more than 500,000 Americans, a large portion of which were healthy young adults, and almost wipe out entire villages, like Brevig Mission, Alaska. With most doctors and nurses deployed in World War I, communities stepped up to care for sick neighbors and family members. Influenza of 1918 covers the history of the pandemic and shows what the medicine field learned from it.
