Though the modern Cavalry exists in name only, the mounted soldiers have a long history in the American armed forces going back to the Revolutionary War. From playing major roles in the Mexican American and Civil Wars, training amid an uncertain future during World War I, and transitioning to a dismounted force in World War II and the Korean War, their legacy lives on.
