Mary Had A Little Lamb is a nursery rhyme, written by an American school teacher, Sarah Hale (1788-1879). Before it became a song, it was published as a poem in May 1830. The story was inspired by a young girl named Mary Sawyer who took her pet lamb to school at the urging of her brother. Although it is clearly a child's song, there have been versions recorded by famous blues guitarists Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughn - clearly, this lamb was too cool for school!
