"Transgender" is a word increasingly in the news these days. It refers to one's sense that their actual gender identity differs from that assigned to them by their physical body. This manifests in gender identity confusion, gender dysphoria, and a wish to live one's life according to their gender identity rather than their biological one. It's a difficult way to live, not in the least because many people misunderstand and discriminate against transgender people. But it's important to choose to educate yourself about what transgender means and keep an open mind toward the transgender people around you.
