In early 2020, a new form of coronavirus caused an outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan, China then quickly spread around the world. This new disease, COVID-19, proved highly contagious and capable of causing a range of symptoms from mild, flu-like fever and chills to fatal respiratory distress with some infected people even remaining asymptomatic. The rapid, global spread of the disease led to a pandemic, which governments around the world tried to combat by restricting travel and trade, closing businesses and public places, and requiring citizens to self-isolate and stay at home. This quarantine effort raised many new issues for teens, who found themselves attending school remotely from home, facing anxiety and isolation, and challenged to practice "social distancing," a very difficult thing to do. But even teens played an important part in making the right choices to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help save lives.
