"A Modest Proposal for Preventing the Children of Poor People From Being a Burden to Their Parents or Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Public" is a Juvenalian satirical essay written by Jonathan Swift, and is more commonly known as A Modest Proposal. First published in 1729, it mocks Irish policy by suggesting the Irish could abate their economic troubles by selling their children as food to the rich.
