East Berlin/West Berlin Activity On The Western Side Of The Brandenburg Gate At Dawn On Wednesday Suggested That Another Opening In The Berlin Wall Was Possible, But There Were No Signs Of Demolition Work On The Eastern Side. West German Police Said The East German Police Had Told Them Not To Expect An Opening On Wednesday. A West German Police Officer At The Scene Said That Because The Wall Was Three Metres (10 Feet) Thick At The Point In Front Of The Gate, Extensive Preparatory Work Would Be Needed Before Demolition Could Begin. He Added That The Wall Could Be Opened There On Thursday. It Would Be The 23Rd Crossing Point Between East Germany And West Berlin. Nearly Half Of East Germany'S 16.5 Million Citizens Have Been Issued With Visas For The West Since Travel Restrictions Were Lifted Six Days Ago, According To The State News Agency Adn. Authorities Approved 13,579 Emigration Requests Over The Same Period, Adn Said. Already This Year More Than 200,000 East Germans Have Emigrated Or Fled To West Germany.
