Begins with the inauguration of President Herbert Hoover in 1929 and explores the results of the Kellogg-Briand pact and the effects of worldwide economic instability, leading to the Great Depression. War breaks out in Asia when Japan invades China in 1932, and Hitler rises to power in Germany. In America, Pres. Hoover's efforts are undercut by the privations of the working class, leading to a showdown with World War I "Bonus Marchers" descending on Washington, D.C.
