This guide is inspired by the artistic works of Camal Pirbhai and Camille Turner, through their artwork series, “Wanted” and “House of Bâby”. This guide provides opportunities for teachers and students to explore the complexities of the institution of slavery specifically in the Detroit-Windsor region and in Essex County more broadly, to gain an understanding of the role it has played in the colonial settlement of Ontario. The guide provides cross-curricular learning opportunities across a range of subject areas including social studies, history, geography, language, economics, law, philosophy, and visual arts.
