Beatriz Mendez's brother, Junito, is killed by a rival gang on the day of Beatriz's quinceañera. Now Mami barely functions in her grief, and Beatriz has to take care of her, start high school, and stay involved with the Diablos all at once. But Beatriz's gang responsibilities don't mix well with her passion for dance. Her dreams of dancing like Debbie Allen on the TV show Fame are off the table. When mysterious Polaroid pictures start showing up in her locker, she can't figure out what's going on. And there's also the new Senor Sabe'todo at school, Nasser, who has decided that Beatriz should dance again--with him.
