From the oceans to the Prairies, scientific research is underway to help Canada reach its climate goals. But even here COVID-19 has had an impact. The pandemic has left some oceanographers dry docked and that means important data that can only be researched on the waters is being missed. Meanwhile, over in the Prairies, one firm is going deep to turn Canada's power generation green by creating what could be our first geothermal power plant. Just like coal, gas or nuclear power facilities, a geothermal power plant converts heat into electricity. But it does so by using high heat from the earth accessed by drilling water wells in a process similar to drilling for oil. And that's where Canada's oil drillers are helping.
