Gallium is a soft metal used in electronic circuits, semiconductors and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). An element that melts easily (at temperatures around 30 degrees), it's also used in medical imaging. It allows imaging to focus on areas of inflammation, infection and rapid cell division. This Element of Surprise segment features the following experts: Hriday Bhattacharjee, post-doctoral fellow in Chemistry at Queen's University, and Sydney Buttera, PhD student at Carleton University's Barry Lab.
