Human trafficking is the exploitation of human beings for personal gain. It's a form of slavery that is one of the fastest growing crimes in Canada, occurring in large and small cities all across the country. Ninety-three per cent of the victims are female, usually between the ages of 13 and 25. They are exploited, manipulated and threatened into performing sex for money, which is then taken from them. Now police forces are turning their attention to new ways of fighting this crime; not just capturing the ring operators, but helping the victims get out. And Durham's Police force has a new weapon in the fight. CBC's Ioanna Roumeliotis got unprecedented access into how it's working.
