Sable Island, Nova Scotia, in the northwest Atlantic is home to the largest breeding colony of grey seals in the world. The grey seal population was once hunted to near extinction but is thriving today. Every winter more than 400,000 grey seals come to the island's shores to give birth and breed, giving researchers a rare opportunity to learn more about their life at sea.
