Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives, it's a well-known fact. But what does that really mean? For many decades, it meant that chimpanzees were used as substitutes for humans in labs. Despite everything we've learned about their social intelligence, wide-ranging emotions, non-verbal communication and tool use, we've continued to subject chimps to medical research. This is the touching story of how some very special chimpanzees find sanctuary and a new family when they are retired from a life in the lab.
