In Nazi Germany, friendship between a Jewish German girl and an Aryan German girl is strictly verboten, yet Edie and Sabine have been best friends since Kindergarten. As WWII continues, Edie escapes to Canada and Sabine remains in their southern German town, eventually rescuing Edie's beloved Papa who poses as Sabine's grandfather.
