June is Pride Month in many places across Canada and the world. Pride Month is a time to celebrate LGBTQ identities and is accompanied by many events and parades. LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning or queer. While today you may think of Pride as a month of celebration, it started with protest movements and calls for equal rights for gay and lesbian people.  In recent years, Pride events have become more mainstream in North America, with governments and corporations joining the celebrations. How has the Pride movement changed throughout the years? Why is it still important today? And how does the LGBTQ community feel about brands using Pride Month to promote themselves?
