As a child, Alfa Demmellash grew up in a time of terror in Ethiopia. After surviving being kidnapped for a year by her angry biological father, who did not want her to be able to join her mother in America, she was able to return home and head to the U.S. After graduating from Boston Latin and Harvard University and marrying into one of New Jersey's leading business and political families, Alfa launched Rising Tide Capital together with her classmate-turned-husband. Rising Tide Capital is a non-profit dedicated to the economic empowerment of low-income families and communities through entrepreneurship.
