Strontium is a soft metal like lead that burns in air and reacts with water. It causes paint to glow in the dark and is responsible for the brilliant reds in fireworks, among other uses. But it is also a dangerous byproduct of nuclear fallout. This Element of Surprise segment features the following experts: Ian Clark, professor, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Ottawa, and Clement Bataille, a University of Ottawa assistant professor who pioneered the development of the strontium isotope geolocation tool.
