At the heart of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war is a place called the Gaza Strip. The region has been part of the overarching Israeli-Palestinian conflict since 1948. But what is it?  The Gaza Strip occupies an area of 363 square kilometres. It is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt and Israel. It has an estimated population of about 2.3 million people. There's a story behind how it became a strip and why it is in the middle of the current war between Israel and Hamas. So how did we get here, and why is the Gaza Strip a focus of the war?
