Long involved in conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, Iran has recently disrupted global shipping in the Red Sea and Suez Canal. Iran also has nuclear ambitions, and with its regional dominance expanding, it has aligned itself with other authoritarian regimes like Russia and China.
