Animals (pisiskiwak) are very important to Cree people. Mooshum tells his granddaughter about the characteristics and behaviour of northern animals. She learns about rabbits (wapos); beavers (amisk); owls (oho); wolves (mahikan); otters (nikik); bears (maskwak); moose (môswa); eagles (mikisiw); foxes (mahkises); and loons (mahgwah). This is one episode of the 10-part Stories of the North Series that tells simple Indigenous stories in a fun and positive manner. The series is set in a northern cabin where Mooshum teaches his granddaughters Cree words through traditional stories, merging education with Indigenous language development interactively and authentically. Features Dr. Morris Cook (Mooshum) - Board Chair Northern Lights SD#113 and his granddaughters "Natanis" and "Sekwan" (played by Claire Walker and Mya Hoskins-Fiddler).
