When pilgrims are 6 miles from Mecca, they enter a state of holiness called Ihram. While in Ihram, pilgrims wear different clothing. Men wear two white sheets wrapped around their bodies, and women wear long, white robes and their faces and hands are to remain covered. Ihram clothing presents that all Muslims are equal no matter what status or wealth they might have.
