Mooshum tells Natansis about camping with his family. In the old days, Cree people camped all the time. They saw bears along the river as they canoed and at night, watched the Northern Lights. Mooshum plays a song on his drum about being surrounded by trees in nature. Today we learned words about camping: camping (kapiisiwin); canoe (ciman); trees (mistikwak); river (siiipihk); campsite (kapiisowinihk); tent (pakwaniikamik); wood (mihta); fire (iskotew); stars (acahkosak); and sky (wasko). This is one episode of the 10-part Stories of the North Series that tells simple Indigenous stories in a fun and positive manner. The series is set in a northern cabin where Mooshum teaches his granddaughters Cree words through traditional stories, merging education with Indigenous language development interactively and authentically. Features Dr. Morris Cook (Mooshum) - Board Chair Northern Lights SD#113 and his granddaughters "Natanis" and "Sekwan" (played by Claire Walker and Mya Hoskins-Fiddler).
