Plants are an important food source for us. Fruits, vegetables, pulses, and grains are cultivated crops that feed us directly, and plants also feed the animals provide us with meat, dairy and eggs. Many unfamiliar edible plants are used as food by indigenous people. The professor grows Andean arracacha tubers, amaranth, buffalo gourds, and Asian melons. Coffee, tea, sugar, oils, and spices also come from plants. We eat roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds.
