Amphibians can often breath water and air at different stages in their life cycle. The word amphibian comes from the two Greek words amphi, meaning both, and bio, meaning lives. Frogs are amphibians that are born in the water, as tadpoles, and they look more like fish. They live entirely in the water until they get older and grow legs, at which point they live both on land and in water.
