At the age of 13, Jewish boys take part in a ceremony called a Bar Mitzvah, which celebrates the boy's responsibility for his own religious education now that he is of age. The ceremony for girls is called a Bat Mitzvah and takes place when they are also 13. Readings from the Torah are done before a big party is held.
