Tom Smith, a baker from London, invented Christmas Crackers. He was inspired after a trip to Paris, where he tried a bonbon which was a sugared almond wrapped in a twist of tissue paper and was a popular Christmas treat. Smith decided to make them at his own bakery in London, and they gave him the idea to create a cracker with toys in it.
