Both male and female Pharaohs wore makeup in ancient Egypt. The often wore Kohl which was a black paint meant to protect their eyes from the harsh sun. The also used malachite powder to make their eyes appear larger. Makeup was worn by Pharaohs for cosmetic, practical, and spiritual reasons. They wore their eyeliner as a way to resemble the god Horus.
