This is the story of the "Golden Forest", the vast expanses of kelp that line Africa's southwestern shore. Fed by an upwelling of nutrients from deep in the Atlantic, the kelp forest nurtures four distinct worlds. Its floor is a nursery for endangered snails. Its stalks provide shelter and hunting grounds for predators like red roman fish and cow sharks. In the canopy, seals play and learn the skills they will need to avoid great white sharks. And when the kelp dies, it feeds life on the beach.
