In this episode we see some contrasting types of camouflage and colouration. In active camouflage, creatures like the cuttlefish and the mimic octopus change colour to mimic their surroundings. This octopus has also evolved to be able to shift shape to resemble a flatfish, a jelly fish or a sea snake. Leaf insects, stick insects and the orchid mantis have evolved to naturally disappear in their environment. Cheetahs, clown fish and baby giraffes have developed disruptive colouration to break up their body outline. An opposite protective strategy is aposematic coloration; the bright colours of tree frogs and the coral snakes warn predators that they are venomous and undesirable.
