In Sri Lanka's parched lowlands, monkeys eat succulent water lilies at a lake in a forest clearing. Alongside them, deer and wild boar come to drink. It's a peaceful scene - but it can't last. A huge mugger crocodile launches itself from the water, causing panic and sending terrified deer scattering. This ten foot (3m) giant is the largest crocodile here. He rules the roost and gets the pick of the prime hunting spots. A wily hunter, he uses powerful legs to dig into the mud creating the perfect ambush lair. This is the realm of the mugger. Two thousand years ago Sri Lanka's ancient kings built reservoirs to capture monsoon rains - precious water to irrigate crops. Today, more than ten thousand lakes dot the island... all manmade. And all now home to mugger crocodiles.
