The Great Divide tells the story of formation and subsequent impact on the environment of Australia's greatest mountain range. Epic forces shaped this continent and unique species of life are found here. At the south end of the range, the tasmanian devil, a marsupial, can bring down prey larger than thenmselves. When the supercontinent, Gondwana, started to split apart, Australia drifted and pushed up against the Pacific plain and passed over the Pacific superswell, mountains formed along the eastern edge, changing the climate of the the continent. The Grampians imposing peaks and rock ledges dominate the southern edge of Australia, hope to the peregrine falcon. Platypus are also unique in these forests, an egg laying mammal of the monotreme species. The Blue Mountains further north are home to many species of eucalypt trees and the koalas that feed on their leaves, and fire is a vital part of the cycle of this ecosystem. Further north in the new England Tablelands, the climate becomes warmer and wetter, and spectacular waterfalls are found. Rock wallabies find a haven here, and bower birds assemble an assortment of blue trinkets to attract a mate. we pass the Glass House Mountains where and orb weaver spider works his art and on to the Cape York Peninsula at the north end of the range, where the biodiversity in an ancient rain forest is awesome. Here the cassowary shapes its ground environment while the tree dwelling kangaroo live above. This forest range shows how this land came to be.
