This story takes place in the town of Hogsback, a tiny village on the top of a mountain in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The village is surrounded by indigenous Afromontane forests. This interface between natural habitat and human world is the stage for two fragile forest species that are under threat as their habitat disappears. Much of the thick Afromontane indigenous forest has been replaced by farming and pine agriforest in the Amatola Mountains, decimating a vital habitat for Samango monkeys and Cape parrots. Both species have been forced to adapt their behaviour in their search for food.
