The Xelaltxw (aka Halalt) First Nation launched a lawsuit in 2016 against a corporate giant, a pulp mill that has destroyed their estuary and prime shellfish feeding grounds on the coast of BC. 'Xelaltxw' is a David and Goliath story of a small indigenous community standing up to a pulp mill that has desecrated their fishing grounds and a historic burial site. Wastewater from the mill runs into the river, carcinogens get into phytoplankton in the estuary, and then move up the food chain.
