George Burroughs, the former minister of Salem Village, is arrested in Maine and brought to Salem for questioning. Despite his denials, it becomes clear that the words of the afflicted hold more sway with the authorities than his own, and he is thrown into an overflowing jail with dozens of accused witches. The Salem witch trials finally begin on June 2, 1692, with the case against Bridget Bishop, who is quickly found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging. Bishop's violent death is not enough to quell the witch hysteria; five more women, including Sarah Good, are tried and executed within a month. The WITCHES OF SALEM miniseries unravels the hysteria that unfoldedduring the Salem witch trials, and led to the execution of 20 women in an affluent New England community. This docu-drama is a real-life horror story with young teenage girls tragically accused and convicted by the shadowy adults lurking in the background. The series draws on extensive historical documents and court records to bring this drama to life.
