Known as the "Phantom of the Plains", Gabriel DuMont, a Métis leader, mastered the skills of marksmanship and riding by the time he was 12. When DuMont was 14, he got his first taste of battle when his Métis group was outnumbered 10 to 1, but they prevailed using a strategy that Gabriel had suggested.
