When the mass murder of seventeen students and educators occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14th, 2018, the lives of the surviving students changed forever. Only a week later, the school's varsity hockey team agreed that, despite the tragedy, they wanted to go on to play in the state tournament in honour of the victims. The 17 Eagles players won the championship for the 17 victims, for their now well-known school and for their community. W5 describes how proud their coach and community were of their resolve, determination and united effort; and each player placed his medal on one of the victim's memorials the next day to bring the story full circle. This program demonstrates the power of healing that sports can have on a community.
