The dawning of the 21st century is a watershed period in the building of the Cree Nation. Quebec and Cree relations are in deadlock. A bold initiative by the Quebec Premier breaks the deadlock leading to intense negotiations and the signing of the Paix des Braves. However, peace with Quebec comes at a price that some Crees consider to be too high. That price is the partial diversion of the Rupert River, a river that runs through the heart of Eeyou Istchee. Emotions heat up and Cree unity is tested as never before. Following Quebec's lead, Canada reluctantly comes to the negotiating table. The signing of the New Relationship agreement as well as subsequent agreements on governance promise an era of greater cooperation, respect and trust between old adversaries. For the Crees, it means increased autonomy and economic stability for their growing nation. This episode is about celebrating visionary leadership and turning centuries-old adversaries into effective partners and nation builders.
