Tuatoru - Whiro" Circa 1769 AD.  This story reveals the importance of love, loss and the rituals of honoring those passed and present. After the loss of her kuia, Whiro is unable to wail. She watches from the dunes as her whanau mourn the loss. Her aunties accuse her mother of not raising Whiro to respect. She is blamed for putting a curse on the village when strange things begin to happen in the sand dunes after her grandmother's burial.
