Part 1 of an interview with Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter, the February 2021 South Carolina African American History Calendar Honoree, who has served in the South Carolina State House of Representatives since 1992. She is the first African American woman elected to the State House from Orangeburg County. In this clip, Cobb-Hunter discusses the influence of those in her community as a way of fostering her interest in politics. Cobb-Hunter details her journey into politics, including starting the Women of Color Political Network to create a network of women in politics across the state. Cobb-Hunter also details the challenges faced as a woman and person of color making headway into the political arena in the South.
