Robert J. Van de Graaff was an American physicist who invented the van de Graaff generator, a high voltage generator that produces static electricity. When he was studying at Sorbonne in Paris, France in 1924, Marie Curie’s lectures inspired him to take up atomic physics. He became a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was awarded the T Bonner prize. His legacy lives on in his inventions and contributions to science.
