Erin Goodpipe and Saxon de Cocq delve into Treaty 6 which covers much of central Alberta and Saskatchewan. At the time of the negotiation and signing of this treaty, the buffalo herds were nearing extinction, which had huge negative impact on the health and safety of the Plains Indigenous Peoples as they struggled to survive. Consequently, a medicine chest clause was added to this treaty to protect health. However, at the same time the Indian Act was passed, undermining any rights enshrined in treaties. The loyalties and motivations of James McKay also become clearer in this episode. "Treaty Road" is an in-depth 6-part documentary series that follows Métis writer, director and producer Saxon de Cocq and Dakota/Anishinaabekwe educator and researcher, Erin Goodpipe as they travel the old roads to uncover the truth about the signing of the controversial documents, the Numbered Treaties. They examine the role that Saxon's ancestor, James Mackay played in the numbered treaty negotiations.
