In 1895, Joshua Slocum set off alone from Boston aboard a 37-foot wooden sloop, the Spray. 3 years later he returned after completing the first solo circumnavigation of the globe. Sailing alone, published originally in 1900, is his account of that adventure. It is accompanied by Slocom's account of an 1886 voyage on the Liberdade.
