Dry Land Tourist evokes nostalgia for rural life in the Caribbean island in the 1950's. From a palette of memory, Diane Maguire has created vignettes of sexual awakening, conflicted loyalties and generational changes in a white Jamaican family. The complexity of class and colour are revealed when decades later the harsh reality of economics and privilege confront the relationships that exist between classes. Diane Maguire is a Jamaican living in Vancouver. She holds a Masters degree in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. Maguire's short stories have been broadcast and have also been published in journals. This is her first collection of short stories.
