Gen is mad that she has to spend her holiday in Barkerville babysitting her eight-year-old stepbrother, Mark. He snivels and whines, and besides, he doesn't seem interested in math or logical thinking. But one day Mark discovers a fascinating old lady who says she is a ghost. Her home is filled with props from her husband's magic shows, and on her land, the children discover an abandoned gold mine.
