In At the sign of the Sugared Plum, Hannah travels to London in 1665 to help her sister in her sweetmeats shop, but unfortunately the plague has taken hold of the city. In Petals in the ashes, Hannah returns to London in 1666 to re-open the sweetmeats shop with younger sister Anne even though it has been prophesied that terrible events will take place, events even more terrible than the plague.
