The viewing guide presents six workshops for teachers. Each workshop involves participants in the strategies demonstrated in the video and includes opportunities for sharing ideas and creating action plans that reflect new ways to include supportive literacy practices in subject-based lessons. The guide also provides templates for facilitators to use with staff to encourage professional dialogue.

Peel District School Board coordinated the Reaching Higher project, drawing together a committee with representatives from several other school Boards in Ontario. "A provincial team of classroom teachers and elementary and secondary consultants participated in the creation of this video guide. The writing team included educators in special education, ESL/ELD and adolescent literacy."
