A 12-year-old girl is separated from her mother by a slave trader. As the conditions of her enslavement become increasingly intolerable, the girl and her friend are offered a means to escape to Canada by a visitor from the Underground Railroad. She finds strength, courage, and a growing sense of self-worth within herself and from some unlikely people along the way.
